๐Ganghwa Peace Observatory
The observatory is the place where is the most visible the North Korean territory so we can even see the North Korean life in there.
Currently, the place is considered as a cultural tourist spot for peaceful reunification establishment of foundation.
Extensive mud flat of the west coast and the tranquil North Korean territory across from the observatory make you feel peace and relax.
๐Sochang Experience Center
Sochang Experience Center Sochang refers to the natural fabric that was used to make a baby diaper in the past.
From the past, Ganghwado Island had been influenced by the North Korea Gaesung and the sochang industry had been blossoming.
You can learn about sochang and make it at the Sochang Experience Center. You can also enjoy making Hwamunsuk mat and a specialty tea.
๐Joyang Bangjik
This café was the first Korean textile factory and reborn into the complex cultural space.
The old building was abandoned for a long time and finally changed into a beautiful café which is combined old style with modern interior.
Tourists can feel Korean culture and history through the various reminiscence things like old bicycle, sewing machine and signboard.
So, they can enjoy drinking coffee while looking around the beautiful interior and talking memorable pictures.
๐๏ธ Ganghwa Gyodongdo Island๐๏ธ
Gyodongdo Island is located northwest of the larger Ganghwado Island
opular attractions on the island now include Daeryong Market, an alleyway market decorated with colorful murals and statues,
and Manghyangdae Memorial, a gathering place for refugees who fled from the nearby Hwanghaedo Island during the Korean War.
Many of the houses on Gyodongdo Island have swallow nests under the eaves. The refugees consider the swallows as guests from their hometowns.
In the late of Joseon dynasty, a few incidents of the western power's invasion and Japan made the Ganghwado the most important military base to have the capital fully defended.
First incident was Byeongin-yangyo outbreaking in 1866 between Joseon and France. Daewongun, the actual ruler and father of King Gojong , was a man of isolated national policy of which he executed a religious oppression over the catholic priesthood and believers that had actually caused the hostilities to be opened by France.
The second one was Sinmi-yangyo occurred in 1871 of which American navy opened hostilities upon the Jeoseon's denial of their proposal for a trade port opening. The third one was the Japanese ship Unyomaru happened in 1875. This was an incidental clash between Joseon and Japan in the offshore of Ganghwado upon Jeoseon's refusal of Japan's demand for the trade port opening.
For the compensation on the Unyomaru's incident, a treaty of amity was bilaterally concluded in Ganghwado. This is a historical event that Joseon initiated to adopt the open door policy toward the world.
And thes sunflower garden is famous for its endless sunflower field!
This newly opened garden, there will be a DMZ concert too!
